In the Hawaiian language, 'Mauka' means 'toward the mountains.' In this original, Kean depicts a sea and landscape from the North Shore of Oahu. Mount Ka'ala (the highest mountain on Oahu) has a strong presence in this piece and is balanced with a pristinely breaking wave in the foreground. This particular view can be seen in the vicinity of 'Ehukai Beach Park on the North Shore.
