This woodcut print is inspired by the 'mauka' - mountain side and 'makai' - ocean side of Hawaii. It is a common sight in the islands to see the mountain side lined with palm trees while perfect surf awaits at sea. Here Kean combines the two, with his signature palm trees and carefully carved lines depicted a breaking wave.
