‘Indo’ 2022
In this piece, Kean depicts a wave reminiscent of what might be found in Indonesia, a surfing frontier that has drawn adventurers for over 70 years. Though he’s never been to the region, Steve has his eyes set on making that dream a reality. Creating ‘Indo’ is a stepping stone of intention and the first print of its kind to be pulled from his new home studio printing press. The work was developed using two methods of printmaking; woodcut and a color blended mono-print. Implementing a subtle gradient of blue hues has become one of Kean’s most arduous but gratifying processes; a trusty tool in his arsenal of printmaking techniques.
