Loulu is the Hawaiian name for pritchardia or the fan palm.  Loulu is pronounced low-loo and means "umbrella" because the leaves were formerly used as protection from the sun or rain.  There are as many as 19 endemic species of pritchardia in the Hawaiian islands.  Here Kean depicts a loulu palm as a limited edition linocut.  It is hand printed on Washi paper made from cedar bark and cold river water in Japan.  'Loulu' is part of Kean's botanical series.  The artwork is mounted on 8x10 pure black archival and acid-free presentation board.
